How Do I Get To Vela Tobago?

Getting to Tobago is fairly straightforward: anyone who has booked flights on the internet before can do it! But here are the simple steps to get yourself to the Tobago Interntaional Airport (TAB), which will requre a quick stop through the main island of Trinidad and the Port of Spain International Airport (POS). This page is subdivided into the following three topics:

Port of Spain International (POS)

Several carriers offer daily flights to Tobago (TAB) including a quick stop through Trinidad (POS) along the way, and in most cases you can make these connections on the same day. Sometime it will make sense to reserve flight directly to POS instead, then plan on a connection booked separately from POS to TAB ... we've seen this option save hundreds on the ticket price for travel over the same period! Once you reach the terminal, clear customs with a new stamp in your passport, pick up your bags then continue inside the airport to catch your next fight to Tobago: you are almost there!

Tobago International (TAB)

After your quick stop through Trinidad (POS) you will have a short 20 minute flight: you are in Tobago! Once you reach the terminal, proceed to baggage claim then head outside to make your way to your hotel. Perfect!

Getting to Your Hotel and Vela Tobago

Once outside the terminal, there will be an obvious line queued up for taxis. Depending on which hotel you have reserved you likely have between a 5-15 minute drive. Some guests may choose to rent a car but in most cases they simply are not necessary.

Vela Tobago is located a short 2 miles away from the airport on the Northwest tip of the island, within the Pigeon Point Heritage Park. As no hotels or guest homes are allowed within the park boundaries, you will be a short walk, bike ride, or drive from the hotel. Most of the larger hotels offer a free shuttle service throughout the day, or offer free bikes to use to ride yourself to the park. Taxis are easy to arrange as well. NOTE: there is a park entry fee of $3 per person per day to go to Pigeon Point, but it is indeed well worth every penny!
