Getting there

How Do I Get To Vela St Martin?

All you’ll need is a valid passport and get yourself to the Juliana International Airport (SXM). Depending on where you live, many carriers offer daily non-stop and one-stop flights to SXM, so check your calendar and simply reserve tickets for any number of days that you want to plan for your escape. This page is subdivided into the following three topics:

Juliana International (SXM)

Many carriers offer daily non-stop and one-stop flights directly to St Martin, airport code SXM. Easy! And once you arrive at SXM, the rest is even easier. NOTE: this airport is infamous for it's runway facing Maho Beach, where daredevils can literally be blown away when departing flights hit their jets for take-off. We DO NOT recommend trying this for yourself, but it has made for some great YouTube videos (search words: MAHO BEACH TAKEOFF)

Getting around St Martin ... taxi or rental car.

Once you reach the terminal, clear customs with a new stamp in your passport, pick up your bags then head outside to grab a taxi to your hotel. The drive is about 35 minute to Orient Bay. And once you get to Orient Bay every shop, market, and restaurant - as well as the the kite launch and school at Vela St Martin - is no farther than a 15-20 minute walk from any of the hotels in town.

However, if you would like to see more of the island or take advantage of visiting many more of the amazing restaurants and lower-priced supermarkets outside of the gated town of Orient Bay, it is highly recommended to rent a car instead. Many international rental car agencies are available to choose from with pick-up directly at the SXM airport, and the weekly rates are just about the lowest of ALL the Caribbean islands.

Kite Cruise Options - Day-Trips, Overnighters, Chartered Sailboat Vacations

Sure, your vacation package with a traditional plan is great: comfortable lodging to suit your needs and budget, lessons and or rentals to keep you on the water all day, plus a huge range of land-based activities to explore and too many restaurants to try. However, if you would like to see even more of this remarkable part of the world, do it like Columbus did: by sea!

Both day-trip excursions and multi-night charters can be arranged, either reserved in advance or simply added on once you get there. Most guests will enjoy a day-trip by powerboat to nearby Anguilla, though for a longer adventure we suggest taking "Wind & Kite", the 38' catamaran (owned and captained by the center manager, Manu) to set sail and find exciting kitesurf, paddleboard, and snorkel spots to experience.
