Cabarete at it's best , wind everyday ,and the last couple of days wind in the upper 20's , the guys went down to 4.5-4.7m sails.
This spring is one of the best ever, it started out with a very windy February and March , April seems to be even windier, many days above 25kn and today the same again.
Waves also had been great some really huge days , with 20-25ft on the reef ( during semana santa) , last week almost every single day Mast high+ on DA Reef, many broken Mast's and a few broken Boards (, Charly and Serle).
Today we will have another classic day , it's now 1pm and already blowing solid in the 20kn range.
Hope to see you soon on Da Reef

The 2008 JP and Starboards look awesome as well the SUP's and the Serenity and a Tandem is waiting for you to try out.
Forecast for coming week end looks good .

Jens and the Vela Cabarete team December 09, 2007 Hola Sailors
it's about time I do an update again , of what has been happening down here in Cabarete.
Fall had been good with around 50% wind. Lot's of rain in November, which is a good. This means we will have a try December with great winds and waves like today. It's blowing 15-20 kn with solid 6-8 ft swell.
The forecast for Monday and Tuesday shows increasing swell with 12-17ft ground swell out of the ENE.
So surf and wind is up for all of our new 2008 Toys which arrived last night. The container got here around 9pm. and 2 hours later we were done with unloading .
All the new gear will be ready to use in a couple of days from now on, so incase you haven't done your reservation hurry up and make sure you book in advance , as we will have a very busy X-mas and New Year here in Cabarete.
See you all on Da Reef
Jens August 20, 2007 Hola Sailors,

Our VoyVoy Bar is going of every Monday with Karaoke night followed by Taco Tuesday, and Thai Thursday and Salsa Dancing on Friday Night.
Hurricane Dean brought us some solid 8-12 ft E swell and winds in the 20-25kn range SSE direction for the last 3 day's.
Today its back to normal East wind and small but fun waves.
If you want to check for our latest conditions, go to
http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.iws?regionID=132®ionProductID=1&timeoffset=0
Forecast looks good for this week and I'm sure we will have a very windy September as well.
So what are you waiting for come on down and enjoy the Endless summer with us.
See you on Da Reef

June 21, 2007 Hola Sailors,
it's windy down here, all last week 18-24 kn average.
Waves hip to shoulder high, and lots of smiley faces on the beach.
June in Cabarete wind at it's best . Forecast for the next days, no change wind wise , but a bigger swell arriving Sunday .
So what are you waiting for , ring the Vela office in hood River and reserve your board with us , it's going to be very busy from next week on , PKRA Kite Boarding World Cup is coming to Cabarete , so lot's of parties and tons of fun ahead.

jens and the Vela Cabarete crew June 01, 2007 Hola Sailors,
The rain is over. After 3 day's of rain we back in full force today with 22-26kn and some nice shoulder high waves on Da Reef of Cabarete.
The forecast looks awesome for next week, wind should be everyday in the lower twenties, so summer has started .
Sorry got to go back sailing ,it's just picked up a couple of knots , time to try my small Wave board a Proof 81l, should be fun.
See you all on Da Reef
Jens May 10, 2007 Hola Sailors,
it's been a while since I've updated the wind report.
We had a lot of rain in April, but still 50% wind , which is pretty good for this time of the year. May so far had been good as well with about 65% wind and some good waves as well, couple of days ago we had a great Swell out of the NNW which means the wind was perfect side-shore to the waves. Had a blast on logo to mast high set waves with 5-6 bottom turns each wave.
The general long range forecast for this summer season looks awesome due to slightly lower water temperatures in the tropical Atlantic. This causes higher wind shears , which means stronger trade winds than usually.
So in case you haven't done your reservation with the office in Hood River , hurry up, we filling up quickly for this summer season.
See ya on Da Reef
Jens
March 08, 2007 Hola Sailors
Cabarete at it's best wind everyday in the 18-24 kn range, since the beginning of the month.
Waves shoulder to a bit over head high and no shore break. It doesn't get any better then this. Today it looks like a another classic day with already 20 kn on the outside at 11.30am.
See you on Da Reef
Jens
February 10, 2007 Hola Sailors
Wind had been good on the 5/6/7 of February. Sail range 5.4m-6.9m for the big guy's. Boards in the 90-109liter range.
The 8th. was more the Slalom kind of day with 12-15 kn.
Yesterday the wind turned to North west and stayed light all day.
Last night we had some serious rain shower pouring down with strong winds out of the North (straight Onshore ). Today it's nice and sunny again , the wind did swing around back to East again, which means we are back on track for more sailing from tomorrow on. Most off the guests took it it easy and enjoyed the waves on Cabarete Reef using the Kayaks of went Surfing to Playa Encuentro. Glassy waves from shoulder to head high.
In case not all of you know yet, we have our Bar at the Center now open until 1.am , and finally Da Bar has an official Name.
Now called VoiVoi! So far there were only drinks and once a week "Taco Tuesday". Since a couple of weeks there is now " Thai Thursday", thanks to Darika and Donald.
New from coming Monday on will be " Movie Monday " with a Burger and Fries.
So you see it's not only happening on the water here at vela Cabarete.
Oh yea !! For the once which love Latino Tunes or want to practice their Salsa or Merengue steps you can dance Friday's on our "Salsa Night".
See you on Da Reef
Jens and Da Vela and VoiVoi crew
February 04, 2007 Hola Sailors
sorry for not updating the wind report. I've been gone for the last 3 weeks ( went Skiing in Switzerland).
Summery for Jan. looks pretty good, with a total of 17 days in the 12-20kn days. 4 out of those day had winds in the 25kn range.
I got back on the first of February , and so far every day had great winds in the 18-24kn range with shoulder to head high waves on Da Reef.
For the days to come it looks awesome , no change in sight.
So what are you waiting for ? Call our office in Hood River, and make your reservation while there is still some availability. Lot's of bookings already for the next 8 weeks , remember Feb and March is the best time for strong winds and big waves.
Greetings from Windy Cabarete
Jens and the Vela crew
January 02, 2007 Happy New Year from very windy Cabarete
We had awesome conditions over X-mas and new year, with a lot of rain at night, but nice and sunny in day time.
Sailing last week mostly on 5.8m-6.5m sails.
Yesterday wind 22-26kn with logo high surf on Da Reef. Everybody had a big smile in their face after yesterday, at least the once which made it on the water, a lot of our guests did stay on the beach, due to some hang over issues from the Big night before.
Wind for the coming days look the same 18-24kn for at least 4-6 days more to come.
See you all on Da Reef
Jens and the Vela Crew December 26, 2006 Hola Sailors
Merry X-mas from good old Cabarete.
Wind has been awesome the last 4 days, with winds in the 14-22kn range. Yesterday was outstanding.
All the new gear is ready to be tested. Love the Kona Exocet for light wind wave riding, took it out the other day in 6-8kn of wind and head high surf, was a real blast , kind of felt like riding a 10 foot long board.
Wind for the coming days look good, so what are you waiting for?? Give the Vela office in Hood River a call and make your reservation.
see you on Da reef
Jens December 12, 2006 Ho Ho Ho
early X-mas happened last night at 11 pm. .
Our 40ft" container rolled through the calle Principal and stopped in front of our Center, with all the new toys for the 2007 season.
New JP and Starboards in all sizes. All new new Kites and Boards from Cabrinha. All the nice clothing....
The boys are putting them as fast together as possible to have all those awesome looking Boards ready to test for the X-mas crowed. There are a lot of reservation for the Christmas week, so incase you want to make sure you will have the chance to try one, hurry on up and give our office in Hood River a call and reserve your windsurfing gear in advance. Cabarete will be for sure very busy during the holidays, I heard that hardly any rooms are left in the various Hotels.
By the way wind wise it's been good so far with some sailing in the 6-7m sail range for the last couple of days, forecast showing better winds for the days to come. Swell wise we have about 6-8ft out of the NNE.
See you soon on Da Reef
Jens and the Vela Crew December 04, 2006 Hola Sailors,

Sailed on my new 5.8m Alpha sail and love it.

November 14, 2006 Hola Sailors
It's been quite down here wind wise the last 4-5 day's now. Last week we had some awesome waves and wind for some nice DTL Riding.
Beach works are full on the way, we are supposed to get 30m of additional Beach in front of Vela tonight or tomorrow. The Dutch team is working 24 hours pumping white sand on to Cabarete Beach, by the end of this week they should be completely done with the upper part of Cabarete Beach), from Velero all the way down to Bozo Beach ( Viva Wyndham Resort. We will have a white x-mas sort of speak, with the most amazing white sand anywhere along the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The water color changed already from dark blue to turquoise , due to the different sand color on the bottom of Cabarete Bay.
So if you want to see what's happening down here hurry on down to enjoy the endless summer with us.
See you an Da white Reef

October 22, 2006 Hola Sailors
It's about time I let you know what has been happening down here in Cabarete.
We had a very windy summer and also September had been outstanding many days in the 22kn-28kn range with some good size waves.
I'm sure some of you heard that we will getting more sand in cabarete ( Goverment project) , so since 5 days now they are pumping sand onto Bozo Beach, and it's amazing how quick they do it, the beach down there must have grown already by 60ft, yes you read right!!!!!
We are getting a total of 90-120ft of additional Beach, so you now what this means, NO MORE SCHLUGGING to the wind line, well now we got to carry our gear a bit further, but what the hack now we can step on our boards and plane right of the beach, I'm sure many of you guy's must like this idea, specially the once which haven't fine tuned their submarine schlugging technique.
So make sure you call the main office to get your reservations in, we are filling up quickly for X-mas, make sure we will have some of the new 2007 toys for you available.
Se you all on Da Reef.
Jens August 06, 2006 Hola Sailors
Cabarete has it's regular summer weather back, with 90% wind in July and 95% wind in June, we had so far a perfect summer.
Did get some 2007 JP RWW 69/76/83/91 in all in pro edition ( special production, not available on the market) weight around 12-13 pounds, did sail them the last couple of day's and I have to tell you they are awesome, narrower in the tail and the rails much thinner than the 06 version. Also did get some other new toy's called T1 and did like them a lot. So in case you wants to sail the new 07 gear before you go out and buy some, come on down and test ride them with us in Paradise.
On the Dare2fly side we did also receive some new 2007 Contra Kites and the Crossbow2's will be here coming Friday.
See you on Da Reef
Jens July 19, 2006 Hola Sailors
Last week did start with a big surprise for all of us. When I came to the beach I had to rub my eyes to believe it. Mast to mast and a half high waves on Da Reef, what surprise to get winter like swell at the beginning of July!!!!!
Well the wind came up as well and all of us had some of the best wave riding since February. It did last for 2 solid days , and then the swell did trop in size but still stayed the rest of the week head high +.
Sofar July had a 100% of wind and for sure there is no change in sight.
Past week end we had once again a windsurfing Competition here in Cabarete Bay. Cabarete Classics organized by Pablito Guzman, it was a great success and all of us had an awesome time competing and cheering on the Mini juniors age 7-11 years, 15 of them. Total Sailors signed up was 40 + 15 Mini Juniors.
Sunday night we had the closing ceremony here at the Vela Center with a great vela BBQ and about 100 people partying.
The last 3 days had been great in the 18-28kn range and today even wind above 30kn.
Did try today some 2007 RWW JP and fell in love with it!!!!
Can't wait to get them in the center, wow what an outstanding Board.
So in case you did not make your reservation yet hurry up the center is really busy, so to make sure to get board call our office in Hood River and make a reservation.
See you all on Da reef

July 08, 2006 Hola Sailors
it's about time again to tell how good it was and still is. Basically since my last wind report we had wind every day except 1 lighter day for large sails. The rest of the time it's been awesome 5.8m sailing conditions and some great days on 5.0-5.4m sails.
Cabarete bay has lately a lot of slalom sails on the water, all the local's practicing hard for the upcoming Slalom and freestyle Event next week-end. For more info check : http://www.fuelx.com/classic/
Also worth to mention is , that our Bar here at the Vela Center is NOW open till 1 am . We call it the VOYVOY Bar.
We got a foosball table and a Dart Board installed upstairs. Seems like a lot of Local feel like to have a sort of "New Tiki" bar in town again away from the crazy party crowds further down the Beach.
For the coming day's and week there seem to be no change it sight, we back to a normal summer again with wind and sun every day.
See you all down here in Paradise.
Jens June 14, 2006 Hola Sailors
13 days of wind so far this month. Well the first week of June was fairly light , but since 6 days it's blowing like sti.k, 20-25 kn every day . The last 2 days were extremely windy in the 30kn range . Yesterday even the big boys were out on 4.2m and 4.7m sails, girls all the way down to 2.9m and 3.3m sails.Today it looks exactly the sme , so we will be rigging more small sails. juhu
There is no change in sight for the next 7 days , so it looks like Cabarete is back to our normal summer with wind every day.
Waves are up as well shoulder to head high for the moment with more to come.
So what are you waiting for call Vela in hood River and book your flight, so you can enjoy once more the endless summer with us down in Paradise.
See you on Da reef

It's Blowing hard everyday right now , yesterday we had 22-26kn side' off and this morning at 8.am it's been the same already, it seems summer trade winds have arrived.Did try our new GPS device and made some 28kn on my 80 liter wave board.
So what are you waiting for hurry up and make your reservation to make sure you will get some gear.
some other news, we have a new wireless set up here at the center, so you can be online while watching other sailors out on the Reef.
see you all on Da Reef
Jens May 07, 2006 hola sailors and kiters around the world!
it's solo reporting once again!
back in cabarete......and loving it! i know jenski didn't update this wind report to much, so he asked me to let you guys know how it's going over here!
well, I've been here for two weeks now. it started out really good with wind on the first 4 days, but after that a little low pressure north of us messed up the trade winds and for the last 8 days we just had to relax.
well, the surf was on a couple of days pretty all time, so we still deserved our presidenties at night. i even got tubed on one great wave at encuentro.
today the wind returned though, and i was kiting at kite beach with my new naish shockwave 12m2 and had a blast.
my wife clarita came again as well and was making her first turnes on the kiteboard and we brought another 10 ski instructors from switzerland that learned to windsurf, or kiteboarding or surfing or right a way went for it all!!!
well, it's time for us to go back into the mountains at lake silvaplana to open the campground we run right on the lake! still freezing cold to hit the water but hopefully it will warm up soon!! up till then we will have to live of the memories of cabarete once again!
i heard Chris is coming up again to cabarete soon for probably his 70th time. to bad i'll miss him and all of you guys showing up here this summer...... I miss it already!
jens and audrey just came back from miami where they loaded up the container with windsurf and kite equipment for this summer......would be great to try it all out once it arrives here.......maybe we just will have to come back this fall!!!
I'll have my Swiss friends write a little on here as well to let you know what they thought of their time here!!!!!!!!!!
Form all the guys and girls back in Belgium. Had a great time down here in Cabarete. The wind wasn't always here, therefore awesome waves. Ended up up with a great Kitesession today. My arms got about 3 cm longer hanging on the 16 Bowkite. What a great feeling ...... Wimpie
ciao, solo and Clarita
PS: We posting this from our new wireless Airport @Vela Cabarete April 12, 2006 Hola Sailors,
It's about time !!! Right!!!
Well we had a mixed March with around 50% of wind more so in the first part of March, with some epic days on the reef in 15-20ft swell.
April so far is awesome with 9 days so far of wind around 16-22 kn and some nice head high swell on the outside.
Semana Santa is coming up this weekend and it looks like we will have the biggest party on the Island happening here in cabarete.3 giant stages are in the process of being build on the beach.
36 hour of non stop music starting Friday at midnight.
No worries we are allowed to go windsurfing over those days, as I managed to get a permit for all the windsurfing Centers in cabarete.
For the future Semana Santa's to come we got confirmation from the Tourism Ministry that Cabarete from now on will be excluded from the Water sport Bann .
Wind wise it looks like April will continue with a lot of wind and waves so what are you waiting for get on the phone and call our office in Hood River and come on down to enjoy the endless summer with us.
See you all on Da Reef
Jens March 02, 2006 Hola Sailors
The last 2 days the wave gods brought some unreal conditions. Tuesday the wind ENE started early in the morning for some 5.2-6.2m sails with 16-20ft waves out of the NNW on the Reef of Cabarete.
Only few sailors made it to the outside to enjoy those rolling Giants.
Most of the sailors stayed inside the bay. Yesterday the swell dropped down in size , still Mast high +, and the wind turned up a notche so that most of the big guy's had to drop down in sail size ,5.2-5.4m, and the lighter sailors got to enjoy the brand new 4.4m and 4.7m Neilpryde Sails.
Today started out slow but now the sun is out and the first white caps are in sight.
Waves are still logo to mast high today so we should have another epic day on the water.
In case you have not reserved yet your gear with Vela, hurry on up and give them a call , it's busy down here in Paradise.
See you all on Da Reef
Jens and the Vela cabarete crew February 23, 2006 Hola Sailors
We had some mixed weather last week with some rain and little wind.
Finally our gear container arrived last Saturday and it's all unpacked and ready to go. Does new JP boards and Starboards are awesome. The sails look really good and so far we only hear good comments on the gear.
Wind had been great for the last 2 days in the 15-22kn range.
Today it looks like it will get even windier.
Hope to see a lot of you down here, sooner or later.
Meanwhile we keep on testing all the new toys, so we will be sure what to recommend.
See you all on Da Reef
Jens and Da Vela Cabarete crew February 02, 2006 Hola sailors
Cabarete was going off over the last 2 weeks with wind's in the mid 20's and some days up to over 30kn. Waves were unreal with a couple of days way over mast high. Lots of broken gear.
That's what everybody was telling me, because I did miss all the awesome sailing , well I had some great skiing at the same time with great weather and good snow.
January 06 will be for sure one of the best ever in Cabarete windsurf history with over 20 days of sailing and 12 day's with wind over 20 kn.
It all points towards a great year to come and if you want to be part of this hurry up and book your flight and come on down to enjoy the endless summer of fun in paradise.
See you on Da Reef
Jens and the Vela Team January 14, 2006 Hola Sailors
The last 3 days were outstanding for Cabarete with big Surf and some 18-22kn. Yesterdays wave sailing was on of the best since a long time logo to mast high and 5-7 bottom turns on every wave.
Today we will see some more of the same so another windy day in paradise.
I'm off to Switzerland this afternoon for some skiing with my buddy solo and Clarita, will be back in 2 weeks to continue the endless summer .
See you on da reef or on the slops
Jens
